A Series of Progressive Violin CDs to be used with the "Violin Series," Third Edition by the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto

Download the Syllabus as a Free PDF - 2006 - 2013

"The more worthwhile the piece, the more important the accompaniment. And, the more important it is to not just experience the accompaniment at the lesson.

"I am thrilled with these [discs]. I want to do all we can to support this project. I want to write about it for Music Matters."

- Julian Fisher of the Toronto School for Strings and a Fiddleheads.ca Customer

Thank you and we received the CD a few days ago and the kids are doing well with it!

- Terry & Ching, Brampton, ON

Plainly put, the Royal Sequence series is a fantastic source of student violin pieces as played with the Royal Conservatory syllabus, most of which have never been recorded before.

Any parent or teacher seeking a recording of these fun pieces for a young player to hear found it a daunting task before this fantastic volume was released.

The CDs are recorded and produced in Canada by the lovely professional musician and teacher Tatiana Kostour. Dedicated to helping players learn by listening, Tatiana has made festival and exam preparation far more enjoyable for students, who can now hear and play along with the pieces as played by a professional!

Six levels starting at the "Introductory" and up to Grade 5 of the "Violin Series" are currently available. Each piece in the books is recorded twice: first with violin and piano, then a separate "accompaniment" track for the player to rehearse with. All the pieces from the current Violin Series are present: Click here for a title listing of each book/cd.

[Note the recordings are done at full, performance speed. Some students may have a tricky time keeping up, but Fiddleheads has a fantastic workaround. Rhiannon uses the free PC and Mac program "Audacity" to slow the recording down without altering the pitch. Once you've opened the desired track in the program, select the "change tempo" setting under the "Effects" menu and drag the slider to the left to slow the tempo down.]

Rhiannon uses these CDs for her students participating in music festival and finds players of all ages enjoy the wide range of styles included. And passes special thanks to Tatiana for taking on this project to help violin students excel!
