The only shoulder rest that works for me

Incidentally, the Bon Musica shoulder rest is the only one that works for me. I am a guitar player of almost 40 years and recently decided to give the violin a shot. After all, how hard could it be for an accomplished string player? Boy, was I wrong…

Anyway, what was impeding my progress was the fact that with a Kun shoulder rest the violin kept twisting down towards the floor, necessitating either extra pressure from the chin or an adjustment from the left hand.

It seemed to me this could easily be fixed with a hook around the shoulder. So I added that to the Kun shoulder rest – and it solved the problem completely. But my implementation is a bit inelegant.

The Bon Musica has an adjustable hook over the shoulder which is perfect. I honestly wonder why the instructor I had for some lessons didn’t recommend this to me.
