The violins are great value for the beginner instruments and my grandaughters love them. These are for my grandchildren who I have been teaching, I am recently rediscovering violin after years of not playing, consider myself more of a beginning player but I love teaching.
Anyway, I also want to purchase a good instrument for myself, which I will pass on to one of my grandchildren, some day, I would love to visit you and see what you think would suit me. I know it sounds rather brazen that I'd like to purchase a good instrument, but why not? Especially if I pass it down.
As to upgrading, I will do exactly what you said and set aside a violin savings jar, great idea. I am retired and finding the violin again has been such a blessing, maybe I should be looking for some instruction but for now you have been so helpful.
Also, I never learned with tape and had to know where to place my fingers by feel and sound, but so many teachers and players have been advising me to use tape, I love that you feel otherwise (to trust our ear and feel of the arm and hand).
