The case was top-shelf and was much nicer than expected.

I hesitated, hummed and hawed over this [deluxe case] for days. In the end, I'm really glad I got it. I had quite some back and forth with Rhiannon about it on email, and she's very patient and helpful. See my review on the

I was going to go for the [flawed economy] cases that she's selling at a discount, but as I had already decided to go for a better violin, I thought I should get the better case to go with it. It felt right in the end, and it was.

It's heavy, strong and perfectly padded, yet I like the quality feel of even the velcro that holds the violin neck, and the elastic straps that hold the lids of the compartments closed.

Of course, the ambient instruments [thermometer and hygrometer] are a plus, and I need to keep an eye on the humidity, it can get to 15% RH around here.

I have one tiny, tiny very personal and not important issue. I'm somewhat environmentally sensitive, so I expect often with new products that there'll be an amount of residual off-gassing from manufacture, usually leaving them to air, (or if appropriate) in the sunshine a couple of days does the trick. The two soft plastic/rubber pads (I don't really know what to call them) on the straps however are made of that really heavy smelling material, and it doesn't stop.

But it's no problem as I just removed them and put them far, far, far away from me.

I bought a beautiful Deluxe case, which is a must to protect your baby.

(Wouldn't you buy the best cradle and beds for your other babies?)

Thanks for getting these to me Rhiannon! They all look great, although the Scarlatta looks the best. I've played them all for a few minutes each and definitely feel the "upgrade" in quality from my old heirloom.

This will be fun to get to know these beautiful instruments.

I'm sure it will be tough to decide which is best! Will keep working with them this week and my teacher is going to get a chance to try them as well.

[UPDATE: 1 day later] I'm into playing them and really enjoying comparing combinations of bows and violins. Early impressions are that the Scarlatta and Seraphina are head and shoulders above the VN 102 sound quality and feel.

The Seraphina is feeling very warm and rich sounding.

The Scarlatta a little brighter.

I know the strings have to come along yet so in no hurry to make a decision yet.

I am finding the lower tones on the Seraphina very attractive and the Scarlatta slightly superior in the higher tones and appearance.

Interestingly, my instructor did a "blind" test of the three you sent me, not knowing which was the more expensive or names and she had a very similar feel for them.

[UPDATE: 2 weeks later] Thank you for sending me the Rose Valley violin when I already had violins on trial. In the end it was not difficult. I will go with the Rose Valley Violin from Angela Moneff!

After playing it for the last few days, I just find it sweeter and more even in its tone than either the Seraphina or the Scarlatta.

And of course I will keep the [deluxe] case.

I purchased a case, and lately I realized a bit too late that a backpack strap makes things easier.

The [V-shaped, padded] strap has fixed so much for me and the quality of the treks to my lessons! This strap is my saviour for my achy shoulders.

Getting the deluxe case might have been a bit much, but it's worth the reduction in anxiety from knowing my violin is protected.

It feels solid and it's even got a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time (or a hygrometer and a thermometer depending on who you ask).

Also, the free violin pin is very cute. Thanks for all the help.
