Mr. Zhu was winner several highly prestigious awards including two Gold Medals in Violin Making [1994 and 2006] and a Silver Award in Viola making [1996] in the Violin Society of America Competitions.

Workshop Overview

Overseen by one of the word's most celebrated luthiers, Mingjiang Violins creates Stradivarius and Guarneri replicas with luxurious Italian styling. Radiant highly-flamed maple and tightly-grained spruce. The instruments are then meticulously oil antique finished by hand.

These fine violins and violas can be appreciated by even the most discerning player and are played by amateurs to soloists and professionals. The tone is smooth, velvety and striking and improves greatly with play and time.

*Note that as these instruments are new they of course require being played to bring out their full tone and will improve with time. Basic break-in time from a few weeks to a few months depending on the player.

Zhu and his workshop apply both time-tested old-world practices and fascinating modern scientific techniques to produce an improved vintage style violin.

For example, by re-graduating (carving) the front and back plates of the instrument in an asymmetric pattern the maker "tunes" the individual piece of wood to bring out the finest tone possible.

These workshop violins and violas, particularly the 909 top level, are quite comparable to instruments by other award-winning makers which are quite easily double the retail price. All instruments are professionally set-up by Zhu's workshop and any necessary adjustments due to varying climate upon arrival in Canada are made by our highly qualified luthier.
