Two Strad Copies: "Romeo" & "Juliet"
BOTH HAVE SOLD
We nicknamed these instruments "Romeo and Juliet" as they are visually complimentary of each other. Juliet has a bolder tone (really, she was the tougher of the Shakespearian duo) and is embellished with a floral tailpiece. Romeo has a striking flame on the back and a flashy bridge. Both have very similar finishes and have had mastodon ivory rings added to the ebony pegs.
Together, the pair makes a nice collector's set or would be ideal for a duo who wants matching used violins. A parent/child duo would probably find the pair perfect (and would have to sort out who gets to play the louder "Juliet" violin!!!)
Both are the same 4/4 size, though the photos may make them appear different sizes. They are fully setup and ready to play. Please inquire with any questions.
And, by the way, Mastodon Ivory is NOT to be confused with Elephant ivory. It is a fossilised ivory found in Russia and Alaska, so no elephants were harmed here! More info here

There is no indication, such as a label or certificate, when the instruments were made. However, it would be a very safe bet to estimate these violins were made sometime between 1921 and 1949 before Germany was divided. |
