Bellissima violins, particularly the 1-piece back models, feature stunning flame with optical debth. |
However, one still must be highly cautious in selecting an instrument from China. Amongst the "duds" are rare gems yet to be discovered.
Thus Fiddleheads owner Rhiannon Schmitt spent over three years communicating with makers throughout China to locate a line that would suit her exceptionally high expectations. She sought an instrument to please both her roles:
As a classical violinist she desired fantastic sound and playability, and as a shop owner she required a well-constructed violin which would simulateanously offer the highest value to her customers.
The final result was the new Bellissima Strings label, which is Italiano for "beautiful," and it is indeed a beautiful line.
The upper-student/ dedicated amateur level label was introduced in January 2009. These beautfully antiqued, handmade workshop instruments are made in Shanghai, China exclusively for Fiddleheads.
Each violin is setup in Canada with upgraded strings, bridge, post, and fittings. Quality control is strict and any problem instruments are returned to the maker.
Instruments which do make the final cut are then played and uniquely named by Rhiannon personally to suit the instrument's musical and visual colour and flavour.
Feedback on the new line has been outstanding. Already teachers across Canada are endorsing the instruments to their students, saying they easily beat out the competition in higher price ranges, including European-made instruments.
Bellissima violins typically start around $1500 CAD and run into the $2500 CAD range.
Only 4/4 violins are kept in stock, but other sizes may be possible. Additionally, models outside the regular price range can be commissioned and various violin family instruments [viola, cello, bass] are available upon request.
Interested in a Bellissima? Fiddleheads invites players to take a Bellissima violin on trial. We pay shipping to the US or Canada on instruments which are purchased, so it's a pretty safe way to try one or two out.
