Fiddleheads carries lovely violins from the workshop of award-winning maker Xue Chang Sun, one of the finest stringed instrument makers in China. 

About Xue Chang Sun

A luthier since the 1960's, he has won many awards including a Gold medal for craftmanship and a Silver medal for tone in cello making at the National Violin Making Competition in China (1987) and a certificate of merit for bass workmanship at the 15th International Violin Society of America Competition and Exhibition (2002).

Mr. Sun's worksmanship has been appreciated among some of the most prestigious luthiers and shops in Asia, Europe, Canada and the United States and his instruments are played by student to professional players around the world.

Fiddleheads carries the most popular Young Maestro VN-100 model. These instruments provide fantastic value for the money and are highly reviewed by our customers. In fact, Fiddleheads Violin School students are encouraged to play this level instrument once they have played for a year or so.

Young Maestro Violins VN-100

These instruments have slightly flamed scroll, neck and ribs. The two-piece back is well flamed (click on photos for closeups) and the instruments are finished with a high gloss oil varnish in a honey amber shade.

Thomastik Dominant strings complete the proper setup for optimum tone and ease of play. It's all included in the price and assures you, the customer can play the instrument upon arrival.

The tone is clear and strong, but not brassy, and will only improve as they are played. Easily comperable to $800 instruments by Eastman, Knilling and Yamaha.

Available as violin only or as an outfit with bow and case. Fine tuners OR Wittner tailpiece added free of charge.
