"Fiddlestix" Violin Outfits/Kits for Kids: DISCONTINUED
We no longer sell these low-end instruments.
For many families buying a violin for our kids during the economic crash many years back was difficult or even impossible. After two years of countless requests from customers during the recession and a long search to fill the short-term need, Fiddleheads's Owner (a symphony musician herself), Rhiannon Nachbaur, temporarily introduced a new budget-level first instrument to get young players going for the short term. "Fiddlestix" cost only $119 for the violin, case, bow and rosin and were promoted to be used only for a few months at most, with encouragement to consider a better quality instrument.
Moving forward into 2017 Rhiannon is concentrating Fiddleheads' efforts and passion to serving the incredible growing demand for our far superior instruments, focusing our first student violin model we carried since the beginning, the solid and wonderful VN-100 series.
Our beautiful VN-100 violins are handcrafted exclusively for Fiddeheads.ca customers from the established workshop of an award-winning maker in Beijing. Not only are the VN-100 violins of an entirely superior class than anything else in this price range or below, but our Canadian setup on top of improvements we have seen done over years of cooperation makes this instrument better than any VN-100 you will buy at another shop.
Hence, the VN-100 is far more comfortable for little and new fingers to hold and play. It also produces a warmer sound up close and at a distance that won't hold a player back (and is easier on other housemates to listen to)! Most importantly, they inspire the musician to want to practice. After all, what good is a violin if it is not being picked up and played.
As interest in the Fiddlestix dwindled, we still found choosing to phase out the cheap outfits was not a decision to take lightly. For two years we listened to customer feedback with both products and compiled the data. What we found was how all customers were ALWAYS grateful when they chose to upgrade to the VN-100 model and saw the difference in price was completely worth it. Especially when you factor in our generous discounts from retail price, and keeping the price at par to USD for our loyal Canadian buyers.
We also saw, in our own students comparing instruments at lessons and in home practice, that the Sun violin saw students stick with lessons, where the cheaper instruments often resulted in wanting to quit playing! The feedback was tremendous!
Being thorough, we did the math and discovered is still cheaper for our customers to invest in the VN-100 and sell it later than to purchase a seeminly disposable fiddle. Even when customers chose to sell the violin used at less than what they paid for it new was STILL cheaper than renting a low quality instrument from the local music store. As they say, no one ever regretted buying quality, but we saw customers wishing they had invested in a better instrument right from the start.
Lastly, it makes better environmental sense to provide instruments that will last more than a lifetime. Having made this choice to sell solid instruments that will stand up to much use for years to come, and what are worth repairing if they are dropped or bumped, we feel very happy to go in this directly.
Please join us in seeing the legacy of quality instruments put into the hands of all beginners, and to see violinists making the sweetest music possible!
