"Just wanted to let you know that the case has arrived, and that she is a beauty.
"Thanks again for everything!"
- Deyna, Saskatoon, SK
My wife just phoned to say that the Hiscox case has arrived safely at our door in quiet little Almonte.
I have watched the fairly long video that Hiscox himself made for his website and was VERY impressed with the thought, care, and quality that goes into making his cases - especially the valances (which I knew about) and the thermal insulation, which will be very welcome in the terrible Ottawa Valley winters. So thanks again for encouraging me to stick to my plan and go for this case. I am looking forward to inspecting it in person. ;)
Thanks for your excellent help, Rhi. You'll be hearing from myself and, no doubt, my colleagues in the future.

The Hiscox cello case is, as you predicted, excellent. It fell over in the elevator after the gig last night as I was juggling electric pianos, amps, etc., and it just sort of rolled onto the floor.
There was no bang or violence. The case just absorbed the fall like a Nerf toy. My cello was perfectly cradled and protected. The case has a streamlined exterior and fits into my car without snagging on anything. I can see from the thick urethane foam lining that it will give excellent protection from the cold.
Oh yes, this case also has a brass hygrometer in it, which they have now discontinued, so I was lucky to get it. The winters in Ottawa are drier (literally) than any desert, as the cold freezes all moisture out of the air. So the hygrometer may prove useful, besides looking all brass and steampunk in my case.
My only quibble is that the shoulder straps are a little bit too short at full extension, but I am 6'4", and a bit taller than normal. Still - a few more inches of strap length wouldn't have broken the bank at Hiscox.
All in all, I feel that this was the very best case that I could have chosen for my environment and needs. Thank you for enabling the best possible outcome for my cello and myself.

"Hiscox's Liteflite double-molded construction provides everything your cello needs for ultimate protection"
Product Description by Fiddleheads's Owner and Musician Rhiannon Schmitt
Players asked Hiscox for the very best lightweight cases possible which would encompass the use of the finest modern materials. Hiscox responded with lightweight cases manufactured using a unique composite double molded construction which gives unparalleled protection for instruments.
The construction consists of a molded, high impact resistant ABS [Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene] plastic outer shell, bonded directly to an inner molding manufactured from a unique blend of cellular foam. The inner molding is feather-light and, being semi-rigid, absorbs impact shocks.
ABS's unique balance of properties allows it to produce moldings which have strength, toughness and rigidity over a wide temperature range. These characteristics make it ideal for use in computer housings, crash-rated vehicle bumpers - and of course, Hiscox cello cases!
The distinctive bonding of the inner molding to the outer shell gives unbeatable, total structural rigidity, which Hiscox proudly claims is unmatched by any other case in the world.
Quality in mind, the case fabric lining is bonded directly onto the shaped foam molding. This ensures a consistent neatly tailored and perfectly fitted appearance.
The Liteflite's unmatched and exclusive aluminum valance not only increases the rigidity of the case, but ensures a proper seal of lid to base when the two halves are closed. Unlike any other case deisgn, the valance also extends deep inside the case behind the plastic shell, into which all the hardware (handles, catches, hinges etc.) is firmly riveted. This method of fixing greatly reduces the possibility of fittings working loose.
With their incredible structural rigidity, all Hiscox Liteflite cases exhibit enormous crush strength. Hiscox maintains these cases can comfortably support the weight of a 90 kg / 200 pound person.
Note the Ivory outer shell has a higher "specification" than the Black, providing even better impact resistance. Because of its lighter color, the Ivory shell also gives increased thermal protection.
All Hiscox cases include 2 bow holders in the lid and 2 heavy duty carrying straps [not pictured], which can be arranged backpack-style or otherwise. Due to popular demand, the complete range of cases are available with optional built in wheels and recessed pulling handle.
Extra cushioning is factory fitted with upholstered pads in key areas on the Deluxe model. Fiddleheads has been asked if extra pads can be purchased as options and unfortunately these are not an option on these cases, but there is no shortage of padding and protection so customers' cellos will be more than protected. If padding is a concern we recommend customers purchase the Deluxe model which has 54% more padding than that of the Standard model.
Internal Dimensions: Body Length 787mm / 31 inches; Spike Length 80mm / 3.1 inches

Shipping
We will have your Hiscox case "drop shipped" straight from their North American supplier to you to save on the cost of double shipping. This means we don't have the case shipped to us, then ship to you and charge you for the extra shipping. It is also far better for our environment to ship direct!
UPS Ground shipping is usually around $65 USD in USA and $85-100 CAD to Canada but these are only estimates and will vary based on your location.
